Volunteering Resources

There are all sorts of things that kids can do! On this page, you will find suggestions for things that younger children can do in groups or with their families and ideas for ways that teens can volunteer, as well. More ideas can be found on Kids Korps and Good Turn for America, too =)

Younger children, in groups or with their families, can...

Help with a collection such as those mentioned on the Volunteering from Home page

"Adopt" a less fortunate child (or family) for Christmas

Help keep parks or playground areas clean

"Socialize" with kittens and puppies at animal shelters

Assist at water stations at events such as Race for the Cure

Make snack bags for a family shelter

Sort items gathered for Church, school, or other organizations' collections

In addition to the things that the younger children can do, teens can, on their own...

Volunteer at a hospital or retirement center

Lend a hand at a soup kitchen (although some require they be accompanied by a parent)

Sort toys for the Salvation Army's angel tree or similar programs

Sort or help distribute food at the food bank

Provide or help to prepare a meal for the residents of their local Ronald McDonald House

Organize a "wish list" for the local organizations to list their "wishes" and volunteer needs for the year

Plan a garage sale or flea market, with proceeds to benefit the charity of their choosing

Build!  Check out the site YouthBuild USA for more information ;-)
